Arsenal have now offered Jack Wilshere a new improved deal in a bid to retain his services for next season, reports the Daily MirrorThe midfielder’s contract at the Emirates is set to expire at the end of the season and he was left disappointed by Arsenal’s initial offer that would have seen Wilshere take a pay-cut of £20,000-a-week to sign a new long-term deal. The England international has no shortage of admirers with clubs like AC Milan and Juventus believed to be monitoring Wilshere’s situation with Arsenal. But the 26-year-old is certain that he wishes to remain at the club, despite their uncertain future with Arsene Wenger stepping down at the end of the season.Merson believes Arsenal should sign Sancho Manuel R. Medina – September 14, 2019 Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho might be the perfect player to play for the Gunners, according to former England international Paul Merson. The Gunners have now offered Wilshere an improved deal in excess of £100,000-a-week after the former academy graduate proved his fitness this season and has re-establish himself as a central figure at North London. Wilshere is set to start for Arsenal in their second leg against Atletico Madrid in the semi-finals of the Europa League with the aggregate score currently tied at 1-1 between the sides.
Ex-Manchester defender Rio Ferdinand claims the confidence in Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool has seen them replace Jose Mourinho’s men as main title rivals to Manchester City. After nine Premier League games this season, the Red Devils are tenth on the log while City and Liverpool are level at the top with 23 points each.In the post-match analysis of Liverpool’s 4-0 win over Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League on Wednesday, Ferdinand bemoaned the negativity around Old Trafford at the moment. He also mentioned Mourinho’s poor man management is having a negative effect on his players, while Klopp’s encouragement is reaping the benefits at Anfield.Liverpool legend Nicol slams Harry Maguire’s Man United form Andrew Smyth – September 14, 2019 Steve Nicol believes Harry Maguire has made some “horrendous mistakes” recently, and has failed to find his best form since joining Manchester United.Ferdinand according to Manchester news said: “That’s a squad full of confidence and a manager feeding off that and then feeding the players more confidence by giving them the good vibes and congratulating them on a good performance.“At the other [Mourinho] it is a little bit different, the vibe is definitely a massive contrast. It’s chalk and cheese really.“It is great to hear a manager congratulate his players on a good performance and seems genuinely pleased and excited by the performances his players are producing for him.”
The former Real Madrid president revealed inside information about Antonio Conte’s reasons for rejecting the manager’s seat offer from Los Blancos. As we recently have detailed the reasons Antonio Conte is not a good fit to become the new Real Madrid manager, there was new inside information from Ramon Calderon about the negotiations that took place between the board and the Italian manager.Turns out that apart from the players not liking the choice of Conte as their new boss, there were also some very important contract clauses that the club simply couldn’t agree to with the manager because doing so would’ve risked too much and failure from Conte could’ve been catastrophic. The club doesn’t want another case of having to pay too much money if things didn’t work with the Italian, which was something entirely possible given his most recent track record at Chelsea and his poor relationship with some of the players from the London club. The information came from Ramon Calderon, who was the Real Madrid president before Florentino took over for his second term and who is still a member of the club despite not having anything more to do apart from just being a supporter. However, Calderon is still a man who has privileged information about the club’s negotiations and he knew exactly how the deal with Conte failed. And of course, this statement couldn’t be completed without Calderon criticizing Florentino one more time.Sabias palabras de Calderón: Antonio Conte ‘reluctant’ to take Real Madrid job – Ramon Calderon https://t.co/Nr85cB5Cp2— Carlos Alameda (@CarlosAlameda) November 1, 2018“He’s asked for three years and to come in with five people and have hands free for signings and transfers,” Calderon told BBC Radio 5 live’s Football Daily Euro Leagues Show.“But that’s something the president [Florentino Perez] isn’t willing to accept.”“I don’t think Antonio Conte will be the coach the Bernabeu is expecting. He’s like Jose Mourinho – a defensive coach with normally three center-backs playing counter-attacking football.”“That’s not what Real Madrid expect to see. The president tried this before with Mourinho. They didn’t win the Champions League and he left the club in a bad situation.”“I’d like Roberto Martinez but he has an existing contract with Belgium. Pochettino also has one with Tottenham,” Calderon added.“The president has got in touch with many people like Martinez, Pochettino, Conte, Mourinho.”Fati and Suarez shine against Valencia at Camp Nou Tomás Pavel Ibarra Meda – September 15, 2019 With a mesmerizing first half from Ansu Fati and a brace from Luis Suarez in the second half, Barcelona demolished Valencia at Camp Nou.Valencia…“Mourinho is the only coach that the president has respected or backed even though he did many wrong things in my opinion. He is a coach who is always blaming others for his failures.”“If Mourinho was free now, he’d be here – you can be completely sure. He’s reluctant,” he concluded.❌ Martinez❌ Pochettino❌ ConteReal Madrid wanted Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho to be their next manager says former President Ramon Calderon.More on the mess at Madrid 👉 https://t.co/O6QKKggP4v pic.twitter.com/tC1HpcQCzc— BBC 5 Live Sport on BBC Sounds (@5liveSport) November 1, 2018While there is still no final decision about who is going to take over the job at Real Madrid, there is a strong contingent that is keen on Santiago Solari staying until the end of the season and even an important part of the local press is pushing for this decision. But the Argentine staying may not be so easy, because he will have to deliver results during these two weeks of trial in which he will play two more La Liga matches and a Champions League match next week against Viktoria Plzen. For now, Los Blancos will play at the Bernabeu next weekend against Real Valladolid, and then they will travel to Vigo where they will face Celta in La Liga after they have traveled to the Czech Republic to play against Viktoria Plzen during the week.Conte seems like he won’t be the next Real Madrid manager, but Calderon’s information only confirms that the club is currently struggling to decide who will take the job on a permanent basis.Ojalá Solari lo ponga de titular contra el Valladolid pic.twitter.com/q4JPJohmJE— VINICIUS JR FANS (@Viniciusjrfans) October 31, 2018Which manager do you like best to take the Real Madrid job? Vammy winners will be determined by tallying the artists who garner the most votes in a nationwide sweepstakes (launching January 12) on their Web site. (The magazine is also giving voters an incentive by entering them into an all-expense paid trip to a Vibe photo shoot.)While the Vammys has the potential to be a dynamic live event, playing it safe with only an online (and print) presence may mute the magazine’s anticipated hype—as well as audience response. We’ll wait and see how online serves Vibe for this lofty claim of “saving” the Grammys. In Vibe’s February issue, writer Sean Fennessey writes about how to “save” the Grammy Awards, a show he says omits key categories (“Best Ringtone,” “Best Hook,” “Best Hook Artist,” among others) and doles out awards to artists not on the top of most true hip-hop lovers’ lists. Piggybacking on this concept, the magazine has planned the first annual Vammy Awards during this year’s Grammys season. While in, uh, headier economic times Vibe might’ve considered making the Vammys a full-blown live music event (music, celebrities and awards are generally a winning formula for a successful live event) it looks like the first annual Vammys will be done online.

Leon Neal/Getty Images Mozilla’s Firefox browser is working to minimize inconveniences we encounter online. The browser’s latest update, version 66 released Tuesday, silences autoplaying videos by default, prevents page jumps and makes it easier to find what you’re looking for in multiple tabs. The Block Autoplay feature will by default stop videos from starting automatically on news sites or those that host movies or TV shows. If you want to watch the video, just click to play it.It’s important to note that it won’t stop videos that already play on mute. You can enable autoplay on certain websites by editing your permissions list in the control center. Firefox version 66 makes for a smoother scrolling experience too. The new feature keeps your page anchored so you don’t lose your place even if ads or images load. Searches are streamlined with the tab overflow menu and private browsing, which doesn’t save your history.Additionally, the newest version of Firefox includes easier-to-understand security alerts, support for Windows Hello and an improved experience for extension users. You don’t have to be a Firefox user to take advantage of autoblock features. In April, Google Chrome started blocking autoplaying audio and video on many sites. The browser learns which websites you allow and which you deny. As you continue to use the browser, Chrome updates its list and blocks as you would. Rezwanul HaqueMissing Rezwanul, a member of Bangladesh Special Olympics team, was found safe with his relatives in Akron on Tuesday, reports UNB quoting Chicago Tribune.Rezwanul Haque, 22, went missing on 19 July after leaving the Gold Coast hotel where he was staying, prompting a search that lasted until early Tuesday evening when Akron police located him at the home of some family members.“It looks like he just came here and hooked up with family members,” Lt. Rick Edwards, spokesman for the Akron police department, said Wednesday.Edwards said that Chicago police investigators contacted the department about 3 pm Tuesday and asked them to go to an address to see whether Rezwanul was there. When they arrived, officers were told by the family that he was not there.About 6:30pm, they returned for another check at the request of Chicago police investigators.“He was located, and we notified the Chicago Police Department as to what they needed done with him,” Edwards said. “They said as long as he’s OK, we’re done with him.”Edwards said that he did not know whether Rezwanul had made plans to visit his relatives or whether it was a spur-of-the-moment decision. He also did not know how he arranged travel to Akron, which is approximately 360 miles east of Chicago.Meanwhile, Monir Choudhury, the honorary consulate general for Bangladesh in Chicago, on Tuesday said he had spoken with Akron police officials and was glad to hear that Rezwanul was found safe and sound.Monir Choudhury said he was still trying to speak with the athlete to learn more about the reason he left Chicago, reports the newspaper.“Until I speak with someone, I cannot give any information because I just don’t know,” he said.In the 2015 Special Olympics, Rezwanul won a gold medal in men’s singles badminton, according to a statement from Special Olympics International.
Indian commuters walk down stairs leasding from a footpath amidst rain in Mumbai on Wednesday. Photo: AFPDozens of flights were diverted from Mumbai after a SpiceJet plane overshot the runway and became stuck in the mud as heavy rain lashed India’s financial capital and caused travel chaos Wednesday.Schools and colleges also closed for the day as a precaution after severe monsoon rain late Tuesday and overnight led to fears of widespread flooding. The storms came three weeks after ten people were killed when torrential rain deluged Mumbai, flooding homes and railway lines and shutting down the city for two days.On Wednesday airport officials were trying to move the SpiceJet plane which skidded on landing at around 10:00 pm on Tuesday and forced the closure of the main runway. All 183 passengers were safely evacuated from the Varanasi to Mumbai flight after it missed the runway and “skidded off into the unpaved surface” due to wet conditions, the airline said in a statement.“The main runway is out of use due to heavy rains. Only the secondary runway is operational and it can only handle a limited number of flights,” Veena Chiplunkar, a spokeswoman for the international airport, told AFP.Some 56 flights were diverted due to Tuesday night’s thunder and lightning storms, she added.Several other flights had been cancelled while travellers were told to expect delays to departures while the main runway remained closed. The plane was still stuck Wednesday morning.Officials had warned of flooding if heavy rain coincided with a high tide, expected around midday, but India’s Meteorological Department said the worst had passed.Railway officials said trains were running normally but many residents decided not to take the risk, opting to work from home. The city’s famed dabbawallahs, who take hundreds of thousands of hot lunches from commuters’ homes to offices every day, cancelled their delivery service Wednesday.Mumbai is regularly deluged by rain between June and September. In 2005 around 950 millimetres (37 inches) fell on the city in just 24 hours, killing around 500 people.

Texas produces more carbon dioxide than any other state in the country. That’s a problem because CO2 is a big cause of global climate change. But what if the greenhouse gas could be turned into a carbon-neutral fuel source? A group of researchers say they have done just that.Scientists at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee were looking for a way to convert carbon dioxide into something useful. As a first step they ran it through a process involving water, electricity and tiny spikes of carbon and copper.Scientists intended to use graphene as a catalyst for the reaction, but didn’t have the materials to do so. The material they did have ended up being integral to their discovery. CREDIT OAK RIDGE NATIONAL LABSIt turns out, that’s all they had to do. The CO2 changed to ethanol, a fuel we use today to power our cars.“It was a huge surprise,” said Adam Rondinone, who headed up the team that made the discovery. “It was the sort of thing that makes you glad to be a scientist.”The process could have special applications in a state like Texas that not only produces a lot of CO2, but also produces a lot of wind power. The reason is the way the electric grid works when it’s loaded with intermittently available renewable energy. “When there’s extra electricity on the grid, when the wind turbines are really moving fast, instead of going and turning down the other [power plants] which costs money to do, we could just dump that into ethanol,” Rondinone said. “And, then, the ethanol could be distributed and used.”That approach could overcome two of the major challenges that have plagued scientists and renewable energy advocates for years.First, it would provide a way of capturing power generated by renewables and storing it for later. That’s something that’s been a Holy Grail for researchers as it could allow people to stop relying on fossil fuels for energy. Second, it would be a way of capturing climate-warming CO2. That’s been a second Holy Grail (yes, in this analogy there are two) because it would mitigate the climate damage caused by burning fossil fuels. The idea that these two challenges could be overcome by one discovery has a lot of people pretty excited. Maybe a little too excited.Dan Cohan, associate professor of environmental engineering at Rice University, says some of the media coverage around the discovery has been unrealistic. “It’s very cool science they did, and it could have some niche applications,” Cohan says. “But – sorry to break the bad news – we haven’t solved climate change this week.”Cohan says it remains to be seen whether using excess electricity to create ethanol is a better use for it than simply storing it in batteries. He’s also skeptical that the amount of CO2 that could be used by this process would be enough to slow global warming.“The magnitude of the problem is just far too great to think we can just soak it all up into ethanol fuel,” he says. The team at Oak Ridge agrees there’s a lot more work to do to before the new technology can leave the lab and find real world applications. They plan to team up with other researchers to further measure the energy efficiency and economic viability of their discovery. Copyright 2016 KUT-FM. To see more, visit KUT-FM. Share
Popular on Variety Charlie Ebersol (pictured above) also is joining forces with his father, longtime sports-media exec Dick Ebersol, who will serve on the league’s board — and previously teamed with McMahon for the XFL’s one-season run on NBC. Dick Ebersol led NBC Sports for more than two decades and created “Sunday Night Football” in partnership with the NFL along with establishing the Peacock’s Olympics coverage. The AAF will be another bid to hook gridiron fans during the NFL offseason, like the Arena Football League and the XFL. Charlie Ebersol says the new league represents a reimagining of pro football, with a focus on player safety and profit participation as well as fan participation through free live-streaming games and integrated fantasy sports elements.“We believe fans and players are what’s most important, so our approach is simple — we’ve created an Alliance where fans and players share in the success of their teams,” said Charlie Ebersol, co-founder and CEO of the AAF.Ebersol co-founded the league with former NFL GM Bill Polian, who over a 24-year span built championship teams including the Buffalo Bills, Indianapolis Colts and Carolina Panthers.Under its deal with the AAF, CBS will air league matchups beginning with the Feb. 9, 2019, season opener and culminating with the championship game the weekend of April 26-28, with one regular-season game airing each week exclusively on CBS Sports Network.Viewers will be able to stream AAF matchups live via a free app, while also accessing integrated fantasy options with real prizes — for themselves and the players they root for. Charlie Ebersol also says the league will offer “family pricing” with more affordable tickets to games. The Alliance of American Football is a “single-entity league,” meaning it will have full ownership of the teams as opposed to operating under a franchise model. The AAF has not announced the eight markets where its teams will be located, with plans to unveil those along with coaches and other personnel over the next 12 weeks on its website (at aaf.com). The league’s eight teams will have 50-player rosters, which AAF said will be “built primarily through regionally based allocation in the fall.” It plans to recruit players “in markets near where they played in the NFL or college.” The AAF will have a 10-week regular season and four-team playoff. To speed up gameplay, the league will institute a play clock shorter than the NFL’s 40-second break, have fewer ad breaks, and require two-point conversion tries after every touchdown.CBS will air two primetime AAF games on its broadcast network next year, plus the full slate of regular-season games on CBS Sports Network. “As the Alliance of American Football launches next February we are excited to become the official television partner, adding more football to our robust programming lineup,” CBS Sports chairman Sean McManus commented. “With Charlie Ebersol and Bill Polian at the helm we are confident that the product they will deliver will be entertaining, exciting, engaging and something that fans will really enjoy.”To minimize the risk of concussions and other injuries, the AAF will diverge from the standard NFL playbook on several features. The league will eliminate kickoffs (with offensive possessions starting on the 25-yard line) and onside kicks (with the trailing team receiving the ball on their own 35-yard line facing fourth down and 10), and it will curtail the three-point stance. League execs say independent organizations will enforce “strict” head-safety protocols. In addition, the Alliance of American Football will create bonus structures for players based on wins, statistical milestones and fan engagement. It also promises players scholarships for post-secondary education for every year played in AAF along with post-football-career planning and counseling.“We will give players an opportunity to flourish on the field while establishing plans to support their personal and professional growth, health, safety and financial well-being,” Polian, the AAF’s head of football, said in a statement. He’s a six-time recipient of the NFL Executive of the Year award and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2015.Ebersol, Polian and their investors have been working on the formation of the AAF for more than a year. Among other key execs, the AAF has named former NFL wide receiver J.K. McKay as head of football operations and has enlisted three ex-NFL stars — Jared Allen, Troy Polamalu and Hines Ward — to serve as player-relations executives. In addition, New York Giants defensive star Justin Tuck is joining the league’s player engagement board of advisers. Charlie Ebersol made a documentary about why the XFL failed. Now he’s set to launch an eight-team pro football league in 2019 with a CBS Sports broadcast deal and a roster of ex-NFL players in executive and advisory roles – a year ahead of WWE chairman Vince McMahon’s planned XFL reboot. The Alliance of American Football is backed by investors including Peter Thiel’s Founders Fund, Slow Ventures, Peter Chernin’s Chernin Group, Adrian Fenty and Charles King’s M Ventures, Keith Rabois, and former NFL all-pro Jared Allen. The AAF is not disclosing how much funding it has raised, but “we are confident we have the right team and long-term financial resources in place to ensure fans will experience high-quality professional football for many seasons to come,” Ebersol said in a statement. Ebersol’s credits as a film and TV producer and director include “This Was the XFL,” which aired as part of ESPN’s “30 for 30” series; USA Network’s “NFL Characters Unite”; CNBC’s “The Profit”; and A&E’s “Rooster and Butch.”New York-based AAF is incorporated as Legendary Field Exhibitions LLC. ×Actors Reveal Their Favorite Disney PrincessesSeveral actors, like Daisy Ridley, Awkwafina, Jeff Goldblum and Gina Rodriguez, reveal their favorite Disney princesses. Opinions expressed by Entrepreneur contributors are their own. 3 min read Free Webinar | Sept. 9: The Entrepreneur’s Playbook for Going Global Mobility isn’t always about racking up frequent-flier miles. For 44-year-old retailer Rob Navarino, it means the freedom to move quickly from his back office to the showroom of his gourmet kitchen products store whenever a customer enters or a sales associate needs help. New mobile technology helps The Chef’s Shop owner see where he’s needed before he’s needed. The same technology also helps this single dad work in his home office while easily monitoring the activities of his 10- and 12-year-old children. “We’re not the kind of office where there is a lot of road time,” Navarino says, “but within our business, you can’t be tied to a desk, either.” The 14-year-old, million-dollar business in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, faced a communications quandary when it expanded onto the second floor of Navarino’s 7,000-square-foot building. Soon after the expansion, Navarino started having trouble locating and communicating with staff members because his two-line phone/intercom system didn’t work well on two floors. Enter the new SD4500 series from Motorola. This communications hub can tie together up to eight wireless telecommunications gadgets. That starts with a basic cordless handset on a landline, but can also extend to other handsets, a Motorola cell phone, surveillance cameras, and even a PC using VoIP over a cable or DSL modem. How it works: Once you plug your cell phone into the SD4500’s docking station, you can receive calls placed to that phone on any of the cordless handsets. Likewise, you can pick up any of the handsets to make a VoIP call. The cameras allow you to watch different rooms in your home or business via wireless audio and video feeds to a base station add-on. The SD4500 series was developed with small offices in mind, says Paul Alfieri, manager of Motorola’s connected home business sector. “Entrepreneurs I know live and die by the cell phone.” It didn’t take much to convince Navarino. He was already considering a comparable product with a price tag near $1,500. In contrast, the Motorola SD4500 costs from $70 (all prices street) for a cordless base unit and one handset to $100 for a corded base and phone, and an additional wireless handset. The camera/intercom and cell phone docking station are add-on modules priced at $80 and $100, respectively. Navarino says the system took him less than an hour to set up–it’s mainly a matter of putting in the batteries and registering the wireless components with the base station. Based on his success with the system at his office, where it has helped intrastaff communication, Navarino was inspired to install it at home. There, it helps him feel less guilty about working while the children are playing nearby. Says Navarino, “I feel more comfortable and secure.” Heather Clancy, editor of technology newsweekly CRN, has been covering the industry for 16 years. Grabyo CEO Gareth Capon with Thierry HenryEnglish Premier League football legends Robin van Persie, Thierry Henry and Cesc Fabregas are among new investors in video sharing start-up Grabyo. The real-time video company will also count NBA basketball player Tony Parker as an investor and global brand ambassador after the US$2 million funding round.Grabyo’s cloud-based service allows broadcasters and rights holders to monetise social engagement around TV shows through instantly created-video clips, integrated sponsorship and advertising assets.Adding the profile of the football and basketball stars would allow the firm to grow across Europe and North America, and would appeal to partners, the company said.“As more people are able to enjoy video across social platforms such as Twitter and Facebook, the involvement of star talent will open up new distribution opportunities for broadcasters, rights holders and brands,” said Gareth Capon, Grabyo’s CEO.“Being away from London makes it harder to keep up with what’s happening in European football,” said former Arsenal and current New York Red Bulls striker Henry.“Grabyo makes it easy for fans to follow the action by making the best moments available in an instant. I am looking forward to helping the company grow.”“I am looking forward to working with Grabyo to bring video highlights to my fans in real time,” added Fabregas, who plays for EPL league leaders Chelsea.
